Mufti Ibrahim Essa, one of the industry's leading Islamic finance scholars, has joined Ethica Institute of Islamic Finance in Dubai as a Shariah Advisor. Mufti Ibrahim joins Ethica’s other Shariah scholars, including Mufti Zubair Usmani and Mufti Ismail Desai, both AAOIFI-level scholars with years of execution experience inside Islamic banks. Ethica offers AAOIFI-compliant, NASBA-compliant certificates to help professionals find Islamic banking jobs and launch careers in Islamic finance.

The highest accreditation in Islamic finance is a fatwa, or expert legal opinion, and Mufti Ibrahim’s role will be to review Ethica’s training, certification, and advisory documentation to provide fatwas on authenticity. Central to this review process will be to ensure that Ethica’s Islamic finance training and certification follows the industry’s most widely accepted and stringent standard, AAOIFI (Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions), the de facto standard in 90% of the world’s Islamic finance jurisdictions.

Mufti Ibrahim — who spent many years studying directly under Mufti Taqi Usmani — said, “Ethica is the gold standard of the industry and the most trusted name in Islamic finance certification. For individuals and institutions looking for credibility in this industry, it is imperative that we have third-party accreditation to ensure authenticity, and I am pleased to join Ethica, perhaps the only training institution to follow 100% AAOIFI-compliance.” Mufti Ibrahim Essa has authored over 2,000 fatwas in Islamic finance and has served as Shariah Advisor to various Islamic financial institutions around the world, including Ernst & Young, Equitable Financial Solutions Australia, ORIX Leasing, Sind Bank, Habib Metropolitan Bank, EFU Takaful, The Citizens Foundation, and others.

“We are delighted to have a scholar who has helped execute numerous Islamic finance transactions at the highest level. The rarest of things today is a scholar who combines between personal God fearingness, deep Shariah knowledge, and years of practical experience working inside an Islamic bank," said Ethica’s spokesperson. Ethica recently won awards for "Best Online Islamic Finance Education Provider — Global” from Capital Finance International Awards and "Islamic Finance Education Provider of the Year — Gold Award” from Islamic Finance Forum of South Asia (IFFSA).
